Introducing Cherden's latest complete litter of 5 -- the boys are on each
end with the 3 girls in the middle. Pictured here at 3 mos old, they are
484 times Pow with a blood percentage to him of 48% (a son would be 50%) and
an inbreeding coefficient of 24%. They are inbred by pedigree closure
rather than by direct inbreeding, from tested clean parents. Bites are
good, testicles are down, all are within show size and within 1/2" overall.
It is absolutely possible to set size, type, and general health & longevity
in this breed, and here's the latest piece of proof among many such litters
I've had here at Cherden. Some, including outcrosses, are pictured below
these newest babes. I grew out 4 girls from the litter before this one, and
at 1 yr of age, I'd rate all 4 as show prospects, 2 of which are now being
offered on the "Available" page. Yes, they are rather plain black as most
of my dogs are, but excel in balance, elegant type, overall structure, solid

The following are litters of pups linebred on the Cherden stock or by a Cherden stud out of line-related bitches. Please note the consistency of type and general size in each litter. The oldest litter is the Copper/Bailey one, next is Lil Thunder/Turbo daughter, next is Rev/Mattie, and the most recent litter is the Barry/Mystery daughter batch.
Above are examples of linebred Cherden puppies and litters. Barry ex Mystery Runner daughter: These pups are Gracia Landes’ breeding (Lancia), here in Oregon. Copper ex Bailey: This litter was whelped in the Midwest. Some of these went to other breeders. Rev ex Mattie: This was Washington litter; one of these pups figures in my own pedigrees now. Lil Thunder ex Turbo daughter: This was a California litter; some went to other breeders.
I am especially pleased with JJ's youngsters. The tricolors just above are JJ's first litter: left to right, Cherden Incantation (on Boys Page; at stud at LiaNess), Cherden Harley, Cherden Witchfire (at Clan Duncan), and Cherden Enchantress (on my Girls Page). The trio of tricolors above is three of them at an earlier age. All are now typy, SOUND, in-size Shelties with the unmistakable Cherden "look." Two were shown at the 2001 ASSA National. A third is Dana Quinney's Ebony. Sharonmarie Jansen now owns the smaller boy from this litter, Cherden Incantation. The whole litter matured in competitive show range. This is a linebred litter, inbred only by pedigree closure. The inbreeding coefficient is approximately 22%, and blood percentage, related to Pow, in the 47% range. All tests on these dogs have come back normal/clear/good. All the litters on this page are proof that size, type, and health CAN be consistently set in this breed.
