Pow was born and bred here at Cherden. Betty Whelen of Pocono Kennels called Pow "one of the greatest Shelties of all time" (Pacesetter, Nov.-Dec. 1978, p. 67). Even after the passing of years, I often see little gleams of him in his descendents as they brighten up my days. Pow, one of the breed's all-time top sires, was painted in oil by Jean Simmonds in 1971. For many years this painting hung alongside the companion portrait of High Born at Banchory, where Pow lived and sired for much of his life. The portrait then went to Ed Sanchez at Stonewall Kennels until Ed's death. My heartfelt thanks always to Jean for allowing me to have it now. Pow's portrait now hangs above his AKC Championship certificate. His closest descendents share the room with his image, reflecting his look and spirit. They cannot help but do the "Pow pogo pounce" and the "Pow water bubbling!" When I join Pow at the Rainbow Bridge, this brilliant painting will be donated to the AKC Museum of the Dog.

I invite you to share this great dog with me. He did much to shape the breed as it is today, and he has been the at heart of Cherden since the day he was born.
